Three selections from the book of Ecclesiastes using the New Jerusalem Bible translation.
Chapter 3 from the Ecclesiastes–popularized in the Byrds version of “Turn! Turn! Turn!“–begins with “There is a season for everything, and a time for every occupation under heaven:” but I think 3:3
A time for tears,
a time for laughter,
a time for mourning,
a time for dancing.
is a useful reminder that there is more to life than your startup.
Chapter four talks about the value of partnership. In 4:9-10
“Better two than one alone, since thus their work is really rewarding. If one should fall, the other helps him up; but what of he person with no one to help him when he falls?”
Chapter five has advice about love of money and luxury. In 5:9-10
No one who loves money ever has enough,
no one who loves luxury has any income;
this, too, is futile.
